Kerala Film Industry struggling with lack of Heroines

The latest fascination for Mollywood is big stars from neighbouring film industries. As most homegrown actresses have migrated to Kollywood, Tollywood or beyond, Malayalam filmmakers have started hiking fees in the hope to lure heroines from other south Indian languages.

Hence movies here, in various stages of production, now boast of names like Asin, Nayantara, Bhoomika, Namitha, Sharbani Mukherjee, Richa Pallod.

While Asin will make a comeback to Malayalam with a new movie with Dileep, Nayantara, Bhoomika, Namitha and Shabaani have already started shooting for various films like Bodyguard, Bhramaram, Black Stallion and Soofi Paranja Katha.

It all started with the sudden withdrawal of two big heroines from Malayalam cinema, Gopika and Kavya, due to their marriages. Filmmakers then felt the need to get big names from other industries
